Millennials, it’s time to talk about you and how your generation fits into this the Heating and Air realm.
I am 30, so by definition I am a millennial too. So I should be able to empathize with you a little here.
We are researchers and loyal to the core (ask us if we would choose Apple or Android). We are 30ish and starting to make big purchases. So in terms of purchasing power, we matter.
As a millennial, we seek advisors more than anything. We don’t need anyone telling us what do so much, but we do need options. I asked a guy yesterday, “How would you approach a broken HVAC system.” His response was very normal (I feel) for our generation. He told me he would look for a YouTube Video to solve the problem for him. I was impressed.
Granted, I would somewhat agree that the millennials are branching out into their own brand of self-sufficiency, but sometimes this could be a fool’s errand. Trust me, I have broken a lot of stuff with a YouTube video.
Now, of course, despite his best attempts he will never get the YouTube video to sell him Heating and Cooling refrigerant that is protected by a license. And it will, despite his best attempts the YouTube video will not validate his manufacturer’s warranty. And when he messes something up, and he will, he will not get the YouTube Video to troubleshoot his very specific problem.
So, what is a heating and cooling professional going to provide the millennials? Well, we will provide them security. Millennials have accrued a large amount of student loan and mortgage debt (interest is rising). We will offer you the ability to extend the life of a system that is expensive to replace. We will also service and clean things that will increase efficiency and lower power bills.
